It’s Not Easy Being Green: Fabric Dyeing Demo

MICA Fiber Faculty and dyer Christina P. Day discusses the dye colors and materials used for the Muppets on display in The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited. This program includes a visual presentation of images about material properties, how dyes work, and a live dyeing demonstration of various materials including foam, fake fur, feathers, and polar fleece. Attendees observe how to carve foam and restore fake fur, putting a whole new meaning to the famous line “It’s not easy being green.” Participants will take home a packet of fabric swatches and fabric dye recipe cards.
