Standing portrait of Dr. Adalbert Johann (or John) Volck, featuring a nature-themed backdrop. Volck was a Bavarian dentist, artist, cartoonist, sculptor, and silversmith who first came to Baltimore, Maryland, to attend dental school. Volck remained in the Baltimore area after graduating in 1852, until his death in 1912.
