Caroline Götz Schmidt (Mrs. Charles J. P. Schmidt)

Description

Oil on canvas portrait painting of Caroline Götz Schmidt (Mrs. Charles J. P. Schmidt) (1842-1930), c. 1870-1880, attributed to Hans Heinrich Bebie (1799-1888). Schmidt, who also went by "Lena", was born in Lahr, Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1866. She settled in Baltimore and married cabinetmaker Charles J. P. Schmidt (1842- ) in 1870. She was a homemaker and had several children.
