Quilt

Description

Baltimore album quilt made by members of the Gorsuch family. Square and triangular blocks featuring red and green floral and geometric motifs are places diagonally. The quilt has a plain border with red triangles at its inner and outer edges. The upper proper right corner features a rather motif that unlike the rest of the quilt has no sashing.

Purple silk fair ribbon from the 1950 Maryland State Fair held in Timonium attached by pin at bottom proper left. A c.1950 label likely from the fair contest is visible in the lower proper right which reads: "George and Helen Mayo. Joshua Gorsuch's Bachelors Album quilt. Each square is signed and dated." Individual quilt squares stamped and inked with names including: "Joshua Larkin Gorsuch," "Mary Louisa Gorsuch, 1845", "W.K. Gorsuch," "James Harris," "E.F. Gorsuch," "Mary Chase "Baltimore 1846," "Rev. Hezekiah Best," "Mary Malltime" "Artride Gorsuch," "Edward Best Gorsuch," "George R. Gorsuch," "Thomas T. Gorsuch," "Shadrock? Sparks," "Belinda Gorsuch," "Jemina Myers," "Rachel Sparks," "Priscilla M. Pearce."
