Mary Pickersgill Making the Star-Spangled Banner, 1814

Description

Scene of Mary Young Pickersgill (1776-1857) and another woman sewing the stars onto the large American flag that would fly over Fort McHenry. Another woman in a pink dress stands behind them holding a candle in one hand with her other hand placed over her heart. Three men in War of 1812 military uniforms stand around the group of women. Barrels and silver pitchers can be seen in the background.
