Extracts from the diary of Florence May Cooper

Description

Eight pages from the diary of World War I American Red Cross nurse Florence May Cooper (1893-1982) during her time at a military hospital in LaPanne, Belgium. A native of the Baltimore area, Cooper graduated from the nursing school now known as Union Memorial Hospital in 1911. The frontispiece of the diary includes an undated black and white photograph of Cooper. In the entry dated February 29, 1916, Cooper describes watching an enemy observation balloon being shot down into the ocean and also provides a sketch of the balloon. In the March 20, 1916 entry she writes about some of the injuries her patients received as well as a severe air battle she witnessed.
