Excerpt from the diary of Edward Tilghman Paca, Jr

Description

Two pages from the diary of Edward Tilghman Paca, Jr (1843-1922), a soldier in the Confederate Army and a great-grandson of William Paca, governor of Maryland and signer of the Declaration of Independence. Paca lived on the Wye Plantation on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and in the fall of 1862 he enlisted in the Confederate cavalry. In these two pages from his diary written in January of 1863, Paca discusses the distribution of sabres and muskets to the Winder Cavalry of the Maryland Line, which made camp outside of Richmond, Virginia.
