Indenture of Mary to James R. Reynolds

Description

Attested copy of the indenture of Mary, an 8-year-old Black orphan, to James R. Reynolds, a white man, to be brought up in the Christian religion and the "art, mastery, business, occupation, etc. of a servant." The indenture is signed by Henry Miller of Cecil County, Maryland, who witnessed the sealing and delivery of the document.
