Wasitcoat

Description

Blue and brown silk brocade waistcoat. Throughout fashion history, both men and women undertook stratagems to attain an era’s fashionable silhouette. In the 1830s, when a broad chest and a narrow waist constituted the ideal masculine physique, tailors sculpted men’s figures by padding out a waistcoat’s lining in the chest, as was done in Dr. Charles Jennings Macgill’s waistcoat.
