Dress

Description

Fashions of the 1840s characteristically favored more subtle and subdued silhouettes, yet the meticulous manipulation of fabrics and patterns maximized a dress’s visual interest. This pale green and lilac striped dress showcases the masterful sewing skills used to manipulate the fabric. Clever pleating at the bodice creates a chevron design and the three strips of bias-cut fabric decorating the skirt create the illusion that it has two tiers.
