Description

This is a Baltimore empire painted settee. This backless couch features scrolled ends made of poplar and other woods. It is attributed to John (1777-1851) and Hugh (1781-1831) Finlay (fl.1799-1840) of Baltimore, and was made for Alexander Brown (1764-1834), made famous for establishing the first investment banking firm in the United States.
