The cover of Benjamin Bannaker's Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia Almanac, for the Year of our Lord 1795; Being the Third after Leap-Year. The cover features a woodcut portrait of the author, mathematician, astronomer, farmer, and surveyor Benjamin Banneker (the more common spelling of his name). Banneker's almanacs provided scientific information, as well as entertainment through poems, commentary, and short articles.
