Description

An undated photographic copy of a print portrait of Anna Ella Carroll, a politician, lobbyist, and pamphleteer from Maryland's Eastern Shore. Carroll came from a wealthy political family, with a great-grandfather who had signed the Declaration of Independence and father who served as a Governor of Maryland. Carroll criticized slavery in her pamphlets and served as an adviser to the Lincoln presidential cabinet during the Civil War.
