Letter from John Hanson Thomas to Annie Campbell Thomas

Description

A letter sent on Christmas Eve from Dr. John Hanson Thomas to Annie Campbell Thomas, née Gordon, whom he refers to as "My Dear Wife." On September 12, 1861, Dr. Thomas was arrested, along with several other Maryland legislators, for his pro-Confederacy leanings. He was imprisoned for several months, during which time he and Annie wrote each other almost every day, from September 1861 to February 1862.
