View of the Potomac about a mile above George town

Description

Watercolor on paper drawing of "View of the Potomac about a mile above George town," 1798, from the Latrobe Sketchbooks, by Benjamin Henry Latrobe. This scene features a long curvy dirt road stretching along a wooded hillside. One of the banks is Washington, D.C., the other is Virginia, and the Potomac River runs between them. This perspective was captured near Little Falls and Chain Bridge, which is about a mile northwest of Georgetown, and the subjects of several other watercolors by Latrobe.
