Medal, commemorative

Description

Metal medallion featuring Confederate General Robert E. Lee (1807-1870) hung from a brass eagle pin. On October 27, 1887, the city of Richmond, Virginia held a ceremony for a laying of the first stone for a monument to Lee. Pieces of the statue were built in several places before completion and the unveiling in 1890. This medallion was produced in commemoration of the first stone ceremony in 1887.
