Description

An iron unexploded bomb fired from a British naval gun during the bombardment of Fort McHenry, Battle of Baltimore, September 13-14, 1814. This bomb landed at the feet of Private George Baxley (1771-1848), a member of Captain John Berry's Company, Washington Artillery, Maryland Militia. Baxley was born in Harford County, Maryland, died in Baltimore, and is buried in Green Mount Cemetery. It was donated by his son in 1890.
