Trafford in His Studio

Description

Oil on Masonite painting of "Trafford in His Studio", ca. 1950s, by Isabel Simpson Hulings Klots. Trafford Partridge Klots (1913 – 1976) was born in Rome, Italy to parents of Baltimore, Maryland. His education consisted largely of painting. He had several teachers of art to maintain originality. Trafford, through his extensive travels, was able to study the great masters. In 1942, he married Isabel Simpson Hulings (1916-2013) in Baltimore. Trafford and Isabel spent their time between Rochefort-en-terre, France, Maryland, and Florida where they mingled with high society. They had no children. Trafford died in 1976 of heart complications. Isabel was born in Panama City, Panama. Her father was an officer in the U.S. Navy and she lived in a number of different countries and states before meeting Trafford. While her husband was well known for his paintings, Isabel's works are much less well known. Some of her work has even been mistakenly attributed to her husband. She died in Rochefort-en-terre at the age of 96.
