Outbuildings, Brittany

Description

Oil on Masonite painting of "Outbuildings, Brittany", ca. 1940s, by Isabel Simpson Hulings Klots((1916-2013). Isabel was born in Panama City, Panama. Her father was an officer in the U.S. Navy and she lived in a number of different countries and states. In 1942, Isabel married artist Trafford Klots (1913-1976), son of the artist Alfred Klots, in Baltimore. Trafford and Isabel spent their time between Rochefort-en-terre, France, Maryland, and Florida where they mingled with high society. Isabel captured this scene in Brittany, a cultural region in Western France. While her husband is known for his artwork, her work is much less known, and sometimes mistakenly attributed to her husband. She died in Rochefort-en-terre at the age of 96.
