Watercolor on paper drawing of "Squally Weather, James River" over a letter, September 14, 1797, from the Latrobe Sketchbooks, by Benjamin Henry Latrobe. This drawing features a letter written to Latrobe by a George Guttle with references to cargo in Williamsburg, Virginia. Over top of the letter are three scenes depicting "Squally Weather" on the James River, showing storm clouds, heavy wind and rain, and what appears to be a person sitting with their hands covering their face under the protection of the remains of a broken tree.
