Portrait of Rachel Gratz Etting

Description

Greyscale watercolor side-profile miniature portrait of Rachel Gratz Etting (1764-1831). She wears a black dress and a white bonnet tied on with ribbon, with dark curls of hair escaping near her forehead. Her father, Bernard Gratz, and husband Solomon Etting (1764-1847) worked towards advancing Jewish men's rights. In 1826, the "Jew Bill" passed, allowing Jewish men to hold public office in Maryland.
