Portrait of Susan Margaret McKim

Description

Bust-length miniature portrait on ivory of Susan Margaret McKim (1858-1914), c. 1875, by John Carlin (1813-1891) as a young girl with long brown hair in ringlets, seen in three-quarter view, facing left. She wears white off-shoulder dress. Susan was born in Baltimore to Haslett McKim (1812-1891) and Sarah Jane Birkhead McKim (1821-1888). She moved to New York, New York with her parents and spent most of her adult life living with them there until their deaths.
