Alice Lawrason Riggs (Mrs. Elisha Riggs, Sr.)

Description

Oil on canvas portrait painting of Alice Lawrason Riggs (1792-1817), ca. 1817, attributed to Cephas Thompson. Alice was born in Alexandria, Virginia. She married Elisha Riggs, Sr. (1779-1853) of Brookeville, Montgomery County, Maryland in 1812. The couple made their home in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. and had two sons. She died at only 25 years of age and is buried in Christ Church Episcopal Cemetery in Alexandria, VA.
