Hester Ann Wilkins Davis

Paper profile portrait silhouette of "Hester Ann Wilkins Davis" (Mrs. Allen Bowie Davis) (1809-1888), 1825, by an unknown artist. Hester was born in Baltimore, Maryland. On October 8, 1839, she became the second wife of Allen Bowie Davis (1809-1889) of "Greenwood" Plantation in Brookeville, Maryland. "Greenwood" was an extensive farm and saw and grist mill in Montgomery County. Prior to the Civil War, numerous enslaved people worked the farm, blacksmith shop, and a cider mill. In the 1870s, a machine shop was also added to the property. The Davis couple had six children and are buried in the Greenwood Family Plantation Cemetery in Brookeville, Maryland.
