Oil on canvas painting of Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor (1894-1972) and Bessie Wallis Warfield Simpson, Duchess of Windsor (1896-1986) with one of their pug dogs, 1964, by Trafford P. Klots. In 1936, Edward famously succeeded his father George V as King of the British Empire, before proposing to Wallis Simpson of Baltimore, Maryland and causing a constitutional crisis. After less than a year as King, he abdicated the throne and was succeeded by his younger brother George VI. The couple lived out most of their lives in Paris, France.
