Elizabeth Gordon Handy and Child

Description

Three-quarter length seated portrait of Elizabeth Gordon Handy (1778-1820) holding her infant child Lucretia Ann Eleanora McClester (1802-1868). The woman wears a black dress with a low lace-trimmed neckline, high belted waist, and half-length sleeves, as well as multiple necklaces and a white head covering over her brown hair. The infant wears a long white dress and a cap and two red beaded necklaces. In the background is a curtain and a table with a bowl of fruit.
