David Cardoza Levy

Watercolor on ivory portrait painting miniature of David Cardoza Levy (1805-1877) by Alvan Clarke. David was born in Charleston, South Carolina, along with nine siblings and five half-siblings. In 1826, he married Anna Maria Moses Levy (1805-1899) and the couple went on to have eleven children. David served as the Director of the Charleston Insurance Company from 1837-1847, was a member of the Board of Health, and Director of the South Western Railroad Bank. In 1847, he moved to Philadelphia to work as a stockbroker and was prominent in business and social circles. David retired from business in 1870 and died in Jefferson, New Hampshire. He is buried in Mount Sinai Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
