Jug, Covered

Description

These related covered jugs were gifts received by Jerome Napoleon Bonaparte (1805-1870) during the 1856-1857 holiday season from his wife and mother. The bird-and-floral example bears a Dec. 25, 1856 date with an inscription from Susan Bonaparte (1812-1881) and the hunt-scene example bears a Jan. 1, 1857 date with an inscription from Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte(1785-1879).
