Description
Campaign button for Albert C. Ritchie (1876-1936) who served as attorney general and four-time Governor of Maryland, from 1920-1935. He opposed women's suffrage and in 1920 ordered a special session in the legislature to vote on the subject of suffrage. The vote was rejected, but the 19th Amendment was passed shortly thereafter. He ran for governor in 1919, 1923, 1926, 1930, and 1934. Ritchie also unsuccessfully ran for President of the United States in 1924 and 1932.
