Dr. Chao-Ming Chen and unidentified woman

Description

Dr. Chao-Ming Chen seated beside an unidentified woman, both examining a scroll. The woman is likely Dr. Chen's wife, Hsiu Lien Chen. Natives of Fuzhou, China, the Chens immigrated to the United States in 1920 and were longtime residents of Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Chen was a community leader, an instructor in Chinese language and literature at Johns Hopkins University, and an importer of Asian art objects.
