A photograph of an undated photogravure illustration by William H. Weaver from an 1861 issue of Harpers Weekly. The illustration depicts a Winans Steam Gun, which was a steam-powered centrifugal gun used during the American Civil War to propel projectiles via centrifugal forces rather than gunpowder.
