Captain John F. Hoss

Description

Half-length portrait shows Captain John F. Hoss (b. 1793), a man with short wavy black hair, holding a sword in both hands before him. He wears a War of 1812 uniform comprised of a navy suit with gold trim, epaulettes, and buttons. The landscape behind him shows an army encampment with tents. Hoss served as a drummer boy in the British attack on Baltimore in the September of 1814.
