Description
Three pages (pp. 298-300) of the first volume of Maryland's Baltimore County Court chattel records from the years 1773-1784. Pages 299-300 contain the manumission statement given by George Johnson for portraitist Joshua Johnson. In the statement, George acknowledges Joshua as his son, and agrees to free Joshua once he either completes an apprenticeship with Baltimore blacksmith William Forepaugh or turns 21 years of age, whichever occurs first.
