Arunah Shepherdson Abell

Description

Three-quarter length seated portrait shows Arunah Shepherdson Abell (1806-1888) as a man with gray hair and moustache, wearing a gray-black coat, vest, and tie. He holds spectacles in his right hand, while his left hand holds a copy of the "Baltimore Sun." Other copies of newspapers, ledgers, and letters are also seen on the desk. Abell was a prominent American publisher who lived and worked in Baltimore, Maryland, in his later years.
