Description

Issue of the Baltimore Saturday Visiter, a weekly periodical in Baltimore, Maryland. This issue from Saturday, October 19, 1833 features Edgar Allan Poe's prize tale, "MS. Found in a Bottle." Poe entered this piece in a contest sponsored by the publication and won $50 in addition to publication of the piece. Other early works by Poe were also published in the Visiter as the two men who established the paper, Charles Cloud and Lambert Wilmer, were friends with the Baltimore writer.
