Baltimore Schuetzenhof

Description

A view of the shooting range at the Schuetzen Park once located on Gay Street (formerly Belair Road) in Baltimore, Maryland. German Americans in the area established the schuetzen verein, or marksmen club, in the 1850s as shooting was a popular recreational pastime from their native homeland. Baltimore's German population would hold marksman and archery competitions at the park, as well as host festivals, picnics, outdoor concerts, and holiday celebrations.
