Description

Fashion designer Claire McCardell (1905-1958) as a child, seated for a portrait. Born in Frederick, Maryland to Eleanor (1880-1968) and Adrian McCardell (1873-1945), her father was a state senator and president of the Frederick County National Bank. Claire McCardell pioneered the creation of casual, comfortable American sportswear for women.
