Claire McCardell with birdcage

Description

A portrait of fashion designer Claire McCardell (1905-1958) that was featured in Harper's Bazaar magazine. She sits on a bench next to a birdcage while modeling one of the aprons she designed for the New York Association for the Blind. Born in Frederick, Maryland, McCardell pioneered the creation of casual, comfortable American sportswear for women.
