Dress

Description

A silk foulard dress designed by Claire McCardell (1905-1958) for the label 'Claire McCardell Clothes by Townley.' The fabric of this dress is reminiscent of men's silk tie. The dress features a capelet, a spaghetti string closure at the neck, and a bias-cut skirt. Born in Frederick, Maryland, McCardell pioneered the creation of casual, comfortable American sportswear for women.
