Excerpts from the diary of Chesley R. Hall

Description

Eight pages from the diary of Baltimore resident Chesley Roland Hall (1907-1947), who served as an electrician's first mate in the United States Navy during World War II. Influenced by the events of Pearl Harbor, Hall enlisted on November 16, 1942 and in the first three pages of the diary he provides an introduction explaining his decision to join. The following pages contain daily entries in which Hall describes his work duties as well as the toll the war is taking on his mental health and his dependence on alcohol to cope.
