Excerpt from the diary of Lydia Howard de Roth

Description

Title page and two additional pages from the diary of Lydia Howard de Roth (1891-1971), who was an air raid warden during World War II in the Chelsea neighborhood of London, England from 1939 to 1941. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland to a family descended from both Francis Scott Key and John Eager Howard, de Roth was an active member in the city's high society as well as dedicated to her career in civil service. These pages from de Roth's diary contain succinct daily entries that describe patrol schedules, helping casualties to safety, and social gatherings.
