George Steuart

Description

Half-length portrait shows George Steuart (1803-1850) as young man with red-brown hair, gazing directly at viewer. He wears black coat and collared jacket, and white high-collared shirt and stock. He is seated in red-upholstered armchair. George was the son of William (1760-1846) and Mary Scott Steuart (1775- ). In 1831, he married Sophia Rieman Steuart (1810-1886) and the couple had at least four children.
