Hat, Top

Description

Black beaver-felt top hat with gold braid band. The inside of the hat is lined with paper and the band is light green leather. The brim is bound in silk grosgrain ribbon. This hat was worn with the Ridgely family livery (1944.76.26-28) by Tilghman Davis (b.1843). Davis was born into slavery and later as a free man continued to work for the Ridgley family as a coachman.
