Margaret Baker Briscoe

Oil on canvas portrait painting of "Margaret Baker Briscoe" (ca. 1745-1814) (Mrs. Gerard Briscoe), ca. 1790, by Charles Peale Polk. Margaret was born in Maryland around 1745 to Nicholas Baker (1703-1764) and Mary Baker. In 1764, she married Colonel Gerard Briscoe (1737-1801) in Rock Creek Parish, Prince George's County (now Washington, D.C.). The couple had at least six children. During the Revolutionary War, Gerard served in the Virginia Militia. After the war, the family moved to the are around Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia.
