Navy and Merlot sundress

Description

Cotton canvas dress designed by Claire McCardell (1905-1958) for the label 'Claire McCardell Clothes by Townley.' This navy and merlot sundress features a handy side zipper and McCardell’s trademark application of striped fabric cut on the bias, creating an inverted “v” of interest at the center of the ruched bodice. Born in Frederick, Maryland, McCardell pioneered the creation of casual, comfortable American sportswear for women.
