Occupational therapy at Sheppard Pratt Hospital

Description

Four women engaged in knitting and weaving at the Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital located at 6501 North Charles Street in Baltimore County, Maryland. A psychiatrist at the hospital, Dr. William Rush Dunton Jr. (1868-1966), helped to develope and formalize the discipline of occupational therapy during the early 20th century. He advocated for the use of handiwork crafts as a treatment for mental and physical ailments.
