Old Belvedere Bridge

Description

The Belvedere (sometimes spelled Belvidere) wooden covered bridge spanned the Jones Falls from a point near the main entrance of Greenmount Cemetery to what would become the intersection of Preston Street and Guilford Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland. It was in use from February of 1820 until it was torn down in the late 1880s. It was unusual from an engineering standpoint because it used a rare combination of "bowstring" and truss devices.
