Portrait of Commodore Joshua Barney

Description

Colored daguerreotype portrait of American Navy Officer Commodore Joshua Barney. Barney was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1759 and he served in the Continental Navy during the Revolutionary War. He went on to achieve the rank of commodore in the United States Navy and also fought in the War of 1812. Barry died in 1818 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, due to complications from a wound he received at the Battle of Bladensburg.
