Portrait of John Sherlock Young

Description

Daguerreotype portrait of John Sherlock Young (1814-1880), a Baltimore native and New York City merchant. Young was the son of William Loney Young (1785-1842) and Elizabeth Patter (died 1862) of Baltimore, and the elder brother of Arabella Young Gittings, wife of Dr. David Sterrett Gittings of Baltimore. In 1835, he married Ann Smith Post, daughter of Peter Post of New York. The couple were parents to: John Day, William Henry, Annie Post, and Caroline Amelia.
