Quilt

Description

The "Lafayette Quilt" was made by Susan McMinn Buckingham (1796- ) of Baltimore for her husband Isaiah Buckingham (c. 1790-1856) to be worn at a celebration of the War of 1812. He served as a Lieutenant in the 1st Regiment, Maryland Volunteer Artillery, Maryland Militia, during the war. The quilt features General Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834) at center, surrounded by Presidents George Washington (1732-1799), John Adams (1735-1826), Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), and Andrew Jackson (1767-1845). The border features twelve state seals, including Maryland.
